Section 2: Baseline Bearing Data
Anchor: #i1013997Baseline Bearing Defined
The Baseline Bearing documents the compass heading of each straight route segment and the relative location of the baseline used to derive directions and measurements.
Anchor: #i1014007Definitions
Baseline Bearing Degrees—Degree measurement of the variance of the baseline alignment of the highway from its North or South heading, determined by field survey.
Bearing Beginning Direction—Primary direction, North or South, of the baseline alignment of a highway determined by field survey.
Bearing Ending Direction—Direction, east or west, in which the baseline alignment of a highway varies from a north or south heading, determined by field survey; last direction specified.
Bearing Location—An eight character text field used to identify the actual location of the highway baseline:
Value |
Location |
---|---|
HWY CL |
Highway Centerline |
CL Lt Ln |
Centerline of left lane |
50F Rt |
50 feet right of centerline |
EP RL |
Edge of Pavement, right lane |
CL RBL |
Centerline of Roadbed L |
50 RT |
50 feet right of centerline |
LT ROW |
Left right of way |
Bearing Minutes—Whole minute measurement of the difference between actual direction and primary direction of the baseline bearing.
Bearing Seconds—Seconds measurement, to one decimal place, of the variance of the baseline alignment of a highway from its north or south heading, determined by field survey.
Bearing Type—Indicates the type of baseline information recorded on the highway segment:
Value |
Bearing Type |
---|---|
1 |
Baseline Bearing (normal) |
2 |
EQ-Baseline Bearing back |
3 |
EQ-Baseline Bearing forward |
4 |
Highway Baseline location |
Bearing Equations—Those points on the highway centerline at which it is necessary to make one station number equal to another station number:
Bearing Back—Direction or compass heading up to a baseline bearing equation.
Bearing Forward—Direction or compass heading from a baseline bearing equation forward.
Note: Bearings print on the ARI from location point forward, so the form reference marker location should be at the beginning of a clear area (i.e., free of attributes) on the ARI diagram. Add Both EQ‑Baseline Bearing Back [Type 2] and EQ‑Baseline Bearing Forward [Type 3] at the same location
